I mean, it was held in Argentina in '78 during a military regime there. It was held in Mexico City in '86, and it's not like Mexico City is ever safe. And most of those games I'm sure were packed.

The downside I think for South Africa is less about the possible political or security issues but rather just how far it is from everyone else. But, one thing it has in it's favor from a television standpoint is that it's in the same timezone as western Europe, which probably comprises a majority, or least the largest share of viewers.Michael Orrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18139220862030091122noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4921283466097705225.post-48697933686467533222008-07-11T10:22:00.000-04:002008-07-11T10:22:00.000-04:00yeah transport is a problem. i think the biggest q...yeah transport is a problem. i think the biggest quesiton is whether or not people will come to south africa in droves like they would if the world cup was in a first world country?

joburg is a pretty sketchy city, but its reputation as a place that you will be murdered in if you go there is obviously overblown. but will that rep combined with the recent political turmoil scare white europeans away from going to the world cup? I hope not, but i wouldn't be terribly surprised if that was the case.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4921283466097705225.post-64520817433991767392008-07-10T11:09:00.000-04:002008-07-10T11:09:00.000-04:00Stadium construction is not the issue. All stadia ...Stadium construction is not the issue. All stadia wil be complete in 2009 with 9 stadia complete about 1 year before the event. Four stadia will be complete by end 2008.

Athens completed its stadium a week before the event while Beijing completed its Olympic stadium in March this year, just 4 months before the event.

Cape Town will complete its stadium December 2009. Even the delayed stadium in PE will be complete May 2009.

Our real challenge is transport.

Visit www.skyscrapercity.com for updates on all projects.
RegardsCape Town 2010https://www.blogger.com/profile/01659774667497542110noreply@blogger.com
